Prevention & Teeth Cleaning
Your Grand Blanc Dentist With A Plan
In the past few years dentistry has undergone a fairly radical shift. Gone are the days where dentists are “teeth doctors”. Today dentists are more than just general dentistry. They play the role of first defender of our patient’s entire health. It is now understood that the mouth, teeth, gums, tongue and cheeks are the beginning of a person’s entire biological system. Whatever goes wrong here transfers to the entire body. Bacteria from the mouth travel to the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and everywhere else in the body. Additionally, inflammation in the mouth translates to inflammation in the body.
With this in mind our office believes we are your first line of defense for your overall general health. We also believe the best approach to health is a preventative approach and take this very seriously. This is achieved with a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to keep your oral health in check by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.
Here’s the most important thing to remember: In general we are all being attacked by harmful bacteria every day of our lives. Modern diets high in sugar and carbohydrates continually “feed” those bacteria and help them proliferate to levels which cause serious oral and systemic gum disease. Your role at home is to “knock down” those levels of infection with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. The role of the modern dental office in prevention is to continually “knock down” those levels of bacterial infection even further with periodic teeth cleaning maintenance appointments of dental prophylaxis (typically called a “cleaning”). Every single patient has a different biology and different risk factors. It is our mission to determine the best way to promote, educate, and maintain your oral and systemic health.
